Which, I promise, is always ready by the time
my co-workers arrive.
The French intern tells me I make the best
coffee. I think it’s just because I dump in my own measurement of caffeine into
the coffee maker. Meaning, the coffee doesn’t taste like water and that we’re
all awake until the end of the workday.
He had gotten to work early this morning--
pacing outside our building’s main gates, seeing as it’s a thousand times
cooler outside than inside. And that I’m the one with the office key. Which
fine, is the real reason he was outside.
But we put on the small fan, once I opened the
door to our space. The artificial air blowing from the dwarf sized, rectangular
gadget. It’s a tiny machine considering how hot the space is. But I admit it’s
a one up from the otherwise no air that would continue not circulating.
I gave myself a side project today-- an in
between during the mid- day period there’s a stall in TV programmes to archive
on the website. Today, was the life bucket list (obviously a work in progress).
Although I think it’s turned into more of a hopes and dreams list. I remember
writing a list of names for my future children, at age seven or eight; I’ve
always been a list person-- always been a look ahead to the future, hopeful
dreams, wishful fantasies. Though, I am aware that it’s been these months
abroad that have left me with the importance of the moment, rather than a constant longing for the future.
Because eventually the future will come, and it too will become a moment,
passing through-- just like the rest.
Still:
Bucket list of life/ the hopes and dreams of a
20- year- old naïve college student:
1. Live in
New York for some time. (Goal: Work for some large newspaper [The New York
Times] or a hip magazine [The New York Times Magazine]. Pretend to be Carrie
Bradshaw without the cigarettes.
2. Travel.
Always. Pretty flexible where I end up going, but a greater fan of somewhere
where there's a toilet rather than hole in the ground.
3. Write
something huge. Cause some controversy, yet manage to hold my grounds when
defending my thoughts.
4. Publish
a book. Could be cool if a book tour came as a part of the package. Subject/
genre of book: TBD.
5. Go to
India. Preferably to do some sort of community service project there.
6. Live in
London for a little. Have a second marriage ceremony (or the main marriage
ceremony, will have to consult with future husband) in the same synagogue my
grandparents and parents got married in.
7. Rent/
buy an apartment in Paris. Preferably in the 6th. As long as the
zipcode begins with 750 (because that’s the first three numbers of all Parisian
zipcodes).
8. Side
trip to Paris during the honeymoon.
9. Interview
a pop culture celebrity. Dig into who they were before stardom. (Note: Stefani
Joanne Angelina Germanotta’s transformation into Lady Gaga.)
10. Work for
the Post. Become an international feature writer corespondent. If there’s such
a thing. Create the job title, if there isn’t.
11. Eventually
get married. Eventually have kids. Too young to think about it just yet.
12. Have
massive Thanksgiving dinners en famille. Serve turkey and chicken. But only chicken on the bone, because those
that want dry meat can just opt for the turkey.
13. Have my
writing discovered.
14. Partake in "career day" at
an elementary school. I loved listening as a child. Would love to
present, as an adult.
15. Have dinner in Le Jules Vernes.
And that really is all I have for now.
