I literally didn't have the
energy to move when I got to the office this morning. Absolutely a result of
the fact I hadn't had coffee before getting to work-- the resulting headache,
proof of that.
Which is really great that
the withdrawal symptoms have kicked in because it's only been this summer that
I've reverted to my dependency on the morning cup o' joe. I had weeded myself
off of coffee almost two years ago-- slowly picking it back up during my fall
semester, only to discover that the caffeine causes my hands to shake.
But I'm used to the
trembles now. That, and they've gotten a tiny bit better.
And so I'm sitting at my
desk, gripping my cup of coffee with such might-- as if G-d forbid there's a
chance it’ll slip away while I'm not looking-- stopping every five seconds to
down the liquid goodness. Except the urgency at which I'm slurping my coffee
sends me off on a coughing fit as it slides down the wrong way-- my co-workers
feigning casual oblivion.
Right. We all sit next to each
other. And you know, I had turned beetroot red by this point so, if for some reason
they'd all gone deaf, there's no way they'd miss the blazing color that shaded
my face.
But it's all good now. The
caffeine's kicked in its magic-- the coughing has settled down. And now it's
time I get back to work.
